Nerds finally rule football with VAR

VAR ( Video Assist Referee) made its way into the news recently during the Premier League match up between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. With the game tied at 2-2, City scores a goal in injury time, for the win........ Not so fast,.... The refree decides to go to the monitor and take a look and see if it was a goal or not.... Upon further review, the goal has been disallowed..... Game ended 2-2, instead of a 3-2 win for City. In a season that can come down to a point, games like these hurt. For City, they got a point when they deserved 3points and for Spurs, they went from 0 points to 1 point.

Why is there a refree in the game if he still needs a computer to tell him otherwise?
Why not just play with no refs and let the nerds with computers, from the comfort of their stations, officiate the games?
